Laser Vago Coastal Nationals at Blackwater Sailing Club

The Laser Vagos had a great weekend at the Blackwater Sailing Club with the Snipes. The weather was perfect and apart from an early start 10:00 on the water “That’s like in the morning, I’m not awake then” we settled down for 3 races on the Saturday.

The first race was a bit of a shake out most of us inland sailors know about the lumpy bits in the water but currents are a new thing. It was very close racing with Brain Pitman sailing single-handed taking an early lead with Stephen Carver and AJ close racing with Ed Deacon and Jeannette Chin chasing close behind. Steven and Ed managed to overtake but rounding the final mark headed for the wrong finish line and Brain snook in.

The 2nd race Jan & Dan Vago National Champions got their form back again and led with Steve really keeping up the pressure on them With Andy Regan and Jack Davies pushing them to, the tide started to slack but the wind started to increase to marginal trapeze weather.

The 3rd race the tide had turned and we will getting wind over tide. Jan and Dan took an early lead with the rest of the fleet chasing they maintain their lead to the end.

Sunday was a nice Lay in not on the water until 11:00 still with sunny weather slightly stronger winds make this a great day for racing. The first race source Stephen & AJ given the rest of the fleet a real hard task to keep up with. In fact that was how the rest of the races panned out all day.

A big thank you, for the Blackwater Sailing Club and the Snipes class for organising this open event everyone that attended had a really good time. The travellers (we had some down from Liverpool) had a warm welcome and we all made new friends. Big Thanks to Andrew Henriques and his wife for organising the Vago side we look forward to doing it again next year.
